Love the book already and will be ordering for my players!
What I really liked about Winning God’s Way is how clearly it challenges something a lot of athletes feel but don’t always say out loud which is the pressure to tie your worth to performance. The book keeps coming back to that idea, and it does it in a way that feels honest rather than preachy. The message that your identity isn’t defined by stats, playing time, or recognition is probably the most powerful thread throughout the entire book. It’s especially effective because it doesn’t tell you to lower your standards, but it actually encourages excellence, just with a different foundation.
That balance between ambition and faith is one of its strongest points. What was most touching is how the book reframes struggles like losing, injuries, or being overlooked and not as failures, but as meaningful parts of growth. There’s a strong emphasis on the unseen moments (discipline, character, choices we don’t share), and that hits hard because those are the parts of sports that rarely get recognized but matter the most long-term. The idea that “winning” is really about faithfulness, humility, and who you’re becoming and not what you achieve and gives the whole book a deeper sense of purpose.
Overall, it feels less like a typical sports motivation book and more like a guide for keeping your identity steady in an environment that constantly tries to define you by outcomes.
“Winning God’s Way” is a must-read. As athletes, we frequently become confused with what really matters. This book does a fantastic job outlining the winning formula to developing a Christ-centered identity- and nothing is more important than that!
Great book to read for athletes! This is a crazy world we live in and to be rooted and built up in Christ is very important!
